Research interests:

A) The function of the acetogenic Bacteria in biogas producing fermentation plants. Their role in the organic matter degradation, as well as phylogenetic and physiologic diversity markers of the acetogenic population.

B) The function of acetate as intermediate in syntrophic methanogenic enrichments degrading hexadecane. Further, the role of sulfate-reducing Bacteria using a reverse Wood-Ljungdahl pathway for syntrophic acetate oxidation in hydrocarbon degrading communities.
